.......,__._. SCHEME TO PROVIDE FOR ’ FINANCING. _ ~ CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 22. The question of providing finance 11:0 assist returned Soldiers on the land_was discussed by a meeting of landowners in the Wairewa County, Little River. The chairman (Mr J. O. Coop), said that at present the Government allowance of. £2500 was very often quite. sufficient for a man to purchase a farm with, and he thought that if various individuals would guarantee sums according to their me-ans it would be a very considerable help towards putting men on the land. The idea. was generally approved, and it ‘was decided that the ratepayers be; invited to pay, two years’ rates in 3;hree instalments for the purpose of providing finance for putting returned ‘soldiers on the land. ‘The revenue "from rates last year was £3OOO, and it the proposal is carried £6OOO will be available to assist soldier farmers‘
