BLIND BI LL STAKES.
After an extraordinary career of Crime, dating back to 1878, a blind nle.n_. bearing the singularly inappropriate name of lVilli~um Goodfellow (57), was, at Glasgow, convicted of having broken into an unoccupied shop. Evidence was given that prisoner was seen gr-oping his way into premises in George Street, and that he gained entrance by means of skeleton key. The police kept watch, and when acnsed was emerging he was arrested. In his possession was :1. large bunch of chaeksn-ien’s‘» keys. -Lord Salsesen said prisoner had served over 32 years’ penal servitude. If he had not been physically impaired he would have been sellt t-on penal servi—tude again, but taking into consideration his infirmity, his lordship would sentence him to six months’ imprisonment. He did not think he could now be a. danger to the community. On sentence being announced, prisoner protested IT? was innocent. There was 9. scene in the court, occupants of the gallery making :1. vigorous protest. Several policemen had to be called before order could be restored. '
