RAILWAY RESTRICTIONS
TIMARU SCHOLARS FOOLED. ' TIMARU, Aug. 19. The Railway policy of not‘ carrying school boarders home for vacation is ‘causing maximum inconvenience to‘ the Tiinaru High Schools, owing to the announcement of the policy not being made till this morning,‘ practically eight hours before the school break-up. The first notice (through the Press) was that the pupils would be carried on the payment of full fare, and that boys from Otago have been carried through Ca.ntcrbury_ The Timaru stationmaster asked Christchurch for in-_ structions in the middle of last week, but received no answer till this morning, when he was instructed that scholars would not be allowed to travel. About 14.0‘ boarders at the 'l‘im-aru High School are affected. They cannot be kept at the schools, as the domestic staffs are entitled to holidays. The lateness of the Depa.rtment’s veto makes it specially difiicult to make ‘other arrangements.
