SERIOUS NOTE IN ANNUAL REPORT. SYDNEY, Aug. 19. The Railways report stresses rhe necessity -for resuming the construc‘ftional work -on the city railways suspended since June last year. The repbrt says: “Within a very short period the present facilities will absolutely fail to deal with ‘the city’s requirementTs_” The report shows the increases in the wages ‘sheet for the year of £81,554, as a result of various industrial awards.
.The Chief Commissioner, reviewing -‘the position of the railways, sounded a sericz-5 note of Warning. On ‘top of the incvoaised expenditure, he said there was decreasing production. ‘Since 1914 ‘the tonnage handled by the railways had gone backwards. The population had increased, but production per ihiead had fallen.
