ASPHALT V. CONCRETE.
5 ('Io the Editor.) A i Sir,—ln_ your issue of the 10m iuss. his Worship the Mayor is reported to rhavc told the Councillors that the {ratepayers had had no Oppo‘l‘tllCii'y' Of‘ ;expressing an opinion 21 whether the)’ ‘would have concrete slabs or asphalt. en the main street footpaths. This isquite contrary to fact as his W'orshipshould know. At the meeting of rate--payers hold to discuss the loan propo—= sals, the engineel"s report wes read, in which the relative merits of concrete -and asphalt are commented on by him: and a question was asked by a ratepayer———l think it was Mr ‘A. Munro—— as 'to the difference in cost between the two, and was replied to by me. No objection was raised to the Council’s adoption of the more lasting material, and I take it therefore, that the ratepayers present at that meeting were satisfied, as was the Council, toadopt the engineer’s strong recommendation in favour of the concrete. Thanking you for inserting this’ letter.——l am, ctc_, A. L. ARROVVSMIHT. T
