THE HEENZO TREATMENT FOR INFLUENZA.

CLINICAL REPORTS OF CASES. Some people believe that there is likely to be 3. fec‘urrencc of influenza. The many favourable reports from influenza. patients in Australia. who had used Heenzo in fighting ‘the pandemic induced the making of tests as to the best meflaod of administering this popular freatvment. Following are detailed ‘records of casesitreatecl:

No. l.—-Miss D. A., aged. 18 years, after having headache, pains in the neck, shoulders, chest and back, for several hours, was seized with cold shivers . She arrived home from business at 5 p.nl., and was put to bed with a temperature of 103.4. Hot‘. water bottles were applied to her chest and spine, and at 6 pm. she was given 30 drops of Heenzo .(eoncen-tra-ted) and a. desertspoonful of brandy in a tumbler of‘ hot water into which the juice of half a l-emon had been squeezed. An hour later the patient ’s temperature had receded‘ slightly, but as she still complained of the typical influenza pains she lvas given a‘ 5grain aspro tablet crus'hed in half a cup of Warm milk. At 9 p.m. her temperature had dropped one degree. She was then given another 20 drops doselof Heenzo. in hot water and lemon juice, but no brandy. The patienltl perspired freely during the night; at 7 o’clock next morning all pains'had disappeared, and her temperature was only 100.2. She was given another 20 drops of Heenzlo in hot water without either lemon juice or brandy. At midday the temperature was normal, and the painful cough, which was developing the previous evening, was completely dispersed. To avoid the risk of relapse the patient was kept in bed three days, and on th fourth she "returned to work.

No. 2.—Miss H. 13., aged 15, complained on leaving her ‘bed -at 7, 21.111. of having a sore throat, headache, and shooting pains in the chest, which were very severe when she coughed. Her temperature was then 99. At 8 am. it was found to be 100.2. In view of this rise the patient was ordered to bed and was given 30 drops of Hcenzo concentrated in a. tumbler of hot water into which lemon juice had been squeezed_ No brandy was used. At noon the temperature was down to 99.4. Another 20 drops of Heenzo in hot water without lemon juice was administered. At 6 13.111. the temperature was normal, and remained so during the next day. On the third day the patient, whose cough had ceased during; the first day, was allowed tout.

E No. 3.—A :family——f»athel-, xmother, land six children——were down"with inEfluenza. All had developed distress‘ing coughs, and their plight was pit;ialble. They had ben ill a couple of j days, looking after themselves as best they could. On Friday evening yfleenzo was administered. That night lthe patients had some case from the ‘coughing for the first time since contracting tho pandemic. Heenzo was given at intervals during Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, by which time the coughs had practically disappeared, No pneumonie complications developed No. 4.—Mr T.———, a middle-c-ged man, was taken ill. Hehwent home in a half~dazed con(lition;l everything appeared to be spinning round; he had the usual pains, and his temperature was rising quickly. Two doetors pronounced his case one of influenza. The only medicine used was Heenzo in hot water, and Within 24 hours all serious symptoms had dis-‘ appeared. I In all the above cases Heenzo in its eoncent‘rated form was added to hot water, and the patients were only allowed light diets, chiefly fruit. In only one case, and in that with the first dose, was brandy given, thus showing that spirits are not necessary when Heenzo is used, Lemon juice

was used in three out of the four .cases. It is important that anyone contract ing influenza Should go to bed promptly and keep warni, as there is great risk «of pneumonia supervening if the patient catches a chill while trying to battle against: the disease. While in bed a free curfént of air slfould pass through the room; but the patient must be kept out of direct draughts. If these precautions are observed ond Heenzo -used to counteract the germs and allay coughing, the danger ’of the deadly pneumonia Will be reduc‘ed to .3, minimum. Unfortunately, ma‘n’y people foolishly allow pneumonic conditions to de~ Vclop before giving in., with the result that they only stand about a. ten to one chance of recovering. If pulnjonary septicemia occurs, recovery may be little short of a miracle. In every case where patients experience a high temperature accompanied by “thg shivers,” no time should be lost in calling a. doctor to determine whether or not pneumonia has set in; but while Waiting for a doctor give 20 to 30 -drops of Heenzo in hot water and repeat the dose in from two to three hours _ If lemons are in the house the addition of a little "lemon juice is advisable . To make the hot Heenzo medication palatable a little sugar may be added; but it is important that the -mixture should be taken in sip§ as soon as the Hcenzo is added to the water, otherwise-much of its curative value will’ evaporate. The bottle should be well shaken before pouring out the drops. For the treatment of ordinary coughs and sore throats, prepare vHeenzo mixture acc"ording to the directions printed on the label for general family use. Heenzo is obtainable from chemists and stores everywhere, or direct from G. W. Hean__._ Manufacturing Chemist, Wanganui. As its price is _only 25., Heenzo may well be called the people’s remedy.—No. ‘I9P.
