BOROUGH ANCIENT HISTORY?

The Town Clerk has advised us that the report of the'VV.nter Supply C«o-n1~ mittee, published in our columns on last Saturday week, as coming before the Council at its meeting the previous evening, was not a current. report, and that it did not come up for consideration at that meeting, but «at a meeting of the Council held on May 2331- That report, it seems, by some inadvertence, got into the hands of our reporter with current reports, and he naturally published it as a current report, and we quite 13-S naturally 00111m011t9d UPOII it as being :1’ current document, more especially as it had not been previously published. By this misapprehension, we were led into making drastic comments that were not altogether deserved, and dubbing the report “ancient history,” while it had been before -the Council two months previously and dealt with. Unfortunately no reporter. was present at that special meeting, and the report was -not made public in the usual course. It does not, however, ualter the fact that the report, from a public standpoint, was “ancient history,” but the fault is as much, or more, ours than the fault of the Council, neither previously endeav-

ouring to have the report publisliecl for public information. Subsequently, however, -the Mayor and Town Clerk eonferred and decided -to place the whole water supply file at our disposal, and. therefore, we must absolve them from any blame for non-appearance of ifhe report, as it was then virtually and actually in our possession for public use. By some quite unintentional oversight, that important document failed to attract our attention, although the Town ‘Clerk hms qhite -satisfied us that the document was there, and we have no doubt -about its being on the file. Although we published the report in good faith. believing it to be a current document, and commented upon it as such, we are still satisfied it got into our I'eporter’s hands with other reports purely by mistake
