The chairman of the Lambeth guardians drew ‘attention to the ease of an Australian soldier who was departing for home leaving an English wife with three children by a former marriage. The chairman said he had communicat-’ ed with the High Conunissioncr. It would be monstrous ‘if a husband could be carted away, leaving his family dependent ‘on the parish. The Guar--dians urged Parliamentary action in order to avoid a grave scandal.
