THE LUTON RIOT.
GREAT DAMAGE DONE. LONDON, July 21. The rioters a-t Luton (in Bedfordshire) set fire 3'o the Town Hall"aft.er raiding a garage and securing petrol, which they poured on the furniture. .A raid was also made -on a éhenl'is.t’s shop. The rioters assailed the policelwivth bottles, cut fire hoses, burned public records, and looted several shops’. The military restored order, and now occupy the town. The Town Hall was gutted. The daniagvge amounts to a quarter of 9, million. I ‘ VIGOROUS POLICE ACTION. ' Received July 22, 9.30 a.m. LONDON, July 21. There were further disorders at Lutow on Sunday. The police, whohad been reinforced, have acted vigorously, and dispersed the rioters. The Peace Day outbl;ea.k was the sequel of the 'Council’s» refiusal to allow discharged soldiers ro hold memorial services in the public park, because they were contrary to the by-laws.
