CREWS REFUSE TO WORK ON PEACE DAY.
AUCKLAND, July 21. A number of steamers were ‘held up at Auckland during the holidays Owing to 41110 créws ffifusing to take the vessels out to sea. The vessels were the Katoa, Al'£lhlma, KOl-omiko, and Manaia, at Auckland, and the Pateena and Rm'a.wa at Onohtmgsa. The inten«tions of the crews of the Katoa, Korezniko, and Arahtlra. were known on Friday, and the vessels’ departures postponed :Iccol'dingly. The Mandi-:1 was to 11-ave sailed for Whangaroi at ]o'p.m. on Saturcflay, buf shortly before sailing"tilno the crew refused to go to sea. before 10 p.m. to-day. The Platecna :11'1'iV0d at’Onehunga from ‘Vel--ling‘ton at 1 pm. on S{lflll‘d{l}-', and was to have sailed for XVellington'zln hour after.
