Soon after the beginning of =the war the first British Indusfries Fair ‘Was ~held in Lon'don. Similar exhibitions: have ‘been held annually during the war,‘ and preparations am now being made for industries fairs in London,
Birmingham, arid. Glasgow in_ FebruaryMareh next year. So marl~:ed~ has been the success of this system that the Board of Trade has arranged to house the London fair in the Crystal Palace, the largest exhibition building in the world. The London fair is -directly organised by the Board‘ of Trade, while the fairs in Bir.nlinglfam and Glasgow are organised by. the municipalities of the respective cities under the auspices and with the support. of the Board of Trade. They are to be held |=\COlll‘ currelltly, each flair representing a specified group net‘ industries, and no one industry being permitted -to exhibit at two fairs. They are not exhibitions, but trade fairs, to which admittance is re.~:triefed to bona-fide trade bu_ve:'S SCI‘IOIISI_Y llll(‘l‘C‘>‘.'[(‘(l in the partieipatfng trailes, and admission is by invitation only. Participation in "the fair is confined to British manufacturing‘ firms whose principal works and hcild Offices are situated within the British Empire, and are not cl'6ntrolled by foreign interests. Exhibitors are not permitted‘ to exhibit goods other‘ “W” HIOSO they actually Inamlt’actln'e, and participation is confined to gOOdS which are such as would be purchased for re-sale by wlmlcs.-._lle and retail traders. It is believed that the 1920 fairs will “‘make it evident that the British flag is supreme in the Peace’ ful fields .of commerce as it has been on the field 10-fl war.”
