FESTIVITIES TO CLOSE AT NOON ON SATURDAY. His Worship the ‘Mayor (Mr A. J.! Joblin) {received :the following tele--I gram from the Minister of Internal‘ Affairs, dated July 16th:—--: A I have the honour to inform you that it has been decided by Cabinet that people of New Zealand should] be asked to suspend all functions,‘ activities, and celebrations throughout. the Dominion on Peace Celebrations Day, Saturday, 19th July, from 12 noon until five minutes past that hour, in! memory of the brave men. belonging: to the Naval and Military Forces of Great Britain and her Allies, andl especially of the New Zealand soldiers, l, the men of the mercantile marine, and I also the noble army of nursing sisters, ' and other heroic and devoted men and women who saerifced their lives in! the cause of freedom, liberty, and justiee. During the period stated all processions should stop, all activities, and ! all transport services. nlotor ears and: vehicles cease running. All male per- ‘ SOlls should unclover their "he-aids. and ' all persons should stand‘ in reverential I silence during that period as a tribute 9 to the honoured dead.
