l\lo'.'-awhango yesterday was the scene ‘- of an event of considerable enthusiasm- : and pleasurable excitement, the occas-es . ion being the celebration of the marriage of the daughter of Mrs R. T. Batley (Amy Miriama) to.Mr Maurice . Sterling Chambers, son of Mr. Mason Chambers, of Havelock North, Hawke’s Bay. The popularity of the ' families of the contracting parties was evinced by the presence of a. large gathering of well-wishers from all, parts of the district.’ The marriage .. was celebrated in the beautiful little priv.-ate chapel belonging to the B'atley family, which had been tastefully decorated for the festive occasion. The officiating elergymen were ‘the Rev. A. O. lVilliams, and the Rev. W. F. ' Stout. The bride, who looked particularly charming in her bridal costume (ivory satin caught with pink roses at the corners, made in the Grecian style, with girdle of silver, the orthodox veil and wreath of orange blossoms) ‘entered the Cllorß.l_Ch¢apel attended by her two bridesinaids——Miss O. Batley,. sister of the bride (pale blue Georgetti, pink hat, silver trimmings), and Miss: Chambers, sister of the bridegroom (pale pink Georgetti, blue hat and ‘silver trimminigs). The bridegroom was in the capable hands of Mr W. L. McLean, of Hastings, (best man), and . Mr Keith Mcliae (groomsman). The bride was given -away by her brother, Mr P. Batley. The Wedding ceremony ' opened with ‘the lheuarty singing bf the hymn: “The Voice that Breathed §o’er Eden.” The Bridal couple left {the chapel to the strains of “The i Wedding March,” and were greeted on i the lawn with the usual showers of conlfetti from the assembled guests, The iguests were then entertained by Mrs ‘§Bsatley,, with her well-known hospitality, at a sumptuous'wedding break:fast, when the usual toasts were heartily honoured and resporided to. The “children were not. forgotten, Mrs, Batfeyr having provided a liberal" spread to gladden the hearts of all the little ones. - Mrs Batley was attired in grey crepe dc chine costume, violet. hat; Mrs‘ Chambers, sea—grecn silk, black hat; Mrs P. Batley, navy blue frock, black hat. The wedding presents were numerous’ and tasteful. After a happy timespent among their guests, the newlywedded couple left by motor car on their honeymoon ‘-tnavels to the accom- \ paniment of hearty cheers and‘ goofli-. I
wishes .of‘all assembled. The bride’s
travelling costume was a very smart nigger brown, with touches of oriental trimmings, and sxm-:~rt ]:':f to match. ‘,
