_NARRrOW ESCAPE. »FROM SERIOUS ACCIDENT. A . . _ NAPIER, July 9. The: up-strain .from. Paimerston North which.arrived here at“ 6.15 p.nl. this evening, had a rather’ narrow escape from what might have turned out to be a. serious accident. On reaching Ormondville, the train pulled into the sideline to allow the down train to pass. The train was an exceedingly long one, the services. of two engines being required, to (raw it. ‘After the mails had passed, the up train left Ormondville station, hurt as the carriages were traversing the points, ‘which were apparently Split” one or two of them left the track. ‘ The speed of theficraffi was not grezff, but quite suflicient to cause one cartlfiase to topple over, This would have ‘caused the remaining carriages to»fa11 also had it not been for the timely snapping of the couplings. These car-'_ riarnges contained many women and children_ The occupants of the over-’ turned car, four in all, managed’ toget clear in time. Beyond a severe shaking, no harm befel them. The line Was soon cleared, and the train was. then cut in two, and the -passengers‘brought on to Napier, where they ar--rived Well up to time.
