The deceased recently married Captain Eliot, -a grandson of the Earl of St. Germains, but was separated, and her estrangernent was causing depression. She apparently placed the ‘butt of the gun on the floor, and pressed the trigger with her foot. Letters werefound indicating her intention to commit suicide. A maid heard the deceased enter the flat, and then foll-o'.wed_ the repo“t of a gun. The ‘maid called a doctor. who found Mrs Atherton dead, wearing evening dress and a pearl necklace. Her husband collaborated with Bairnsfiather in writing the play “The Better ’Ole.”
