' r 1 The defendants, described as revue! artists, _ stayed together for three‘ weeks as man and wife at a house ini Blackpool, and were traced owing toi the "mother of the girl forwarding a communication to the Blackpool police‘, ‘A police oflicer stated that thel ‘ girl seemed to be afraid of the man, as ‘he had ill-treated her, and on one; ‘iocc-asion had ripped her dress with a! knife. . . ‘ The woman, however, denied that, she was afraid, and said that ‘he had been very good to her, and looked afIter her when she was ill and'had~n,nwhere to go. - -~ 1 The male defendant admitted that? he was married, and said he did not: know whether his wife was dead or, not. He had taken compassion on :l'.—e7 girl, who was without .a friend, and, stated the reason he ripped her cloth-I‘ ing was because he objected to her going out one night, as he looked upon ; Blackpool as a bad town. _
