. MELBOURNE, June 26, Mr. W. A. Watt, Acting-Federal Premier, in the House of Representatives outlining the general financial position, stated that the ‘war expenditure‘ amounted -to £261,521,104. With the heavy expenditure in prospect, "it would be necessary before long to raise another war loan. The indemnity fronr Germany might somewhat lighten the burden, but the taxpayer, in his opinion, would have to liquidate the bulk of Australia's war debt. He also announced that the Government intended to continue the Commonwealth line of steamers, and to build larger and faster vessels. '
