UNAUTHORISED PASSENGERS.
A CHEAP TEIP WITH THE*
“DIGGERS.”
AUCKLAND, June 23. The arrival of the transport' Waintana and the prospects of a cheap trip to the colony offered such a diversion in the routine of two American service men stationed at Colon that they decided to relinquish their duties and join the returning troops., They successfully secreted themselves aboard the vessel, and it was not until she was well clear of Panama that their identity was made known. It was then too late to return them to their duties, and they shared in the welcome home to the Waimana complement this morning. At present they are being detained by the military, with a view to securing their early return to America, when they, as “ returned” boys, will hardly anticipate their return home' as the draft did this morning. During the voyage out the "Diggers” on board showed their sympathy with their allied comrades in a practical manner, by subscribing a sum of £6O for them.
