' A meeting "of the General Committee . in connection with Peace Celebrations was held last night, there being a. »re- ‘ presentative lattendanee of the variaqzs ‘N conimitfees, presided over by "Mr G. \V.rightson. ‘ The Sports Committee reported that all arrangements in connection with the sports were practically completed.. The committee having charge-oflthe-‘ ' hall reported that with the exception of one or two minor details, matters were well advanced Rev. VV. F. Stent, who has charge of the Carnival, reported that arrange-M ments were well forward, but in B.‘ function of this kind there must be’t'ge ‘ real carnival spirit animating the conu munity to make it completely successful. He has some beautiful Japanesemasks to dispose of_ He also stated that some 20 men were reguired to act ‘as carnival guards, to keep Ithe exuberance of the carnivalists within bounds. ~ It would be a penal ofience for anyone N on the night of the carnival to be dis- ‘ covered without a mask or ta fancy costume.
The question of finance was also considered, and inquiries eficited the fact that the various committees were keep-‘ ing reasonably near the limits financially allocafed. ’ ,The Band was allocated £25 "to pl cure musical assistance. ‘
Mr Swindells, on behalf of the Children’s Day Committee, reported tliaf all arrangements were completed, and. handed round a. printed programme, which called forth general commendation. Each child would get a flag, and every infant a toy of some description. The npruactising of the Maypole daneinfi‘ had commenced. ‘
Mr Spooner had offered the services of two men fo collect firewood for the honfire_ Several persons present offered their services in the direction of building the pile." » '
