Mr. J. F.'Mc-nzies, Town Clerk, left this morning by the mail train, en route to Invercargill, on a well-deserv-ed holiday. He will be away about three weeks. A sttartliiig experience recently befel a retired farmer, Mr William Harvey, at Wellington. He walked off the wharf into the harbour, instead of on to the steamer M-arar:oa. Constable J. Isbister was let down on a rope to the man’s assistance, and Mr Harvey was safely pulled on to the wharf. He is a man of over 70 years of age, and suffered somewhat from shock, but was able to 930 South by thelMaral-oa. \Vhile the constable was being pulled alongside the wharf the rope broke, and he in turn had to be rescued by those who were taking part in the proceedings.
