“SOME MISUNDERSTANDINGU’ , ...._...._ l QUA'INT ORDER ISSUED. ; SIMLA, June 2_ An official communique shows that Na letter dated May 28 from the Amir ‘Amanuula addressed to the Viceroy Land asking for a cessation" of hostilities has been received at Peshawar. Its arrival at Simla is awaited. = The following is a certified copy of the Amir’s order‘ to the commander of the Afghan Eastern Army (and presumably to other commanders? attach. ed to the letter:—— O : “May it be known to our exalted and dignified brother, Dost Mohammed Khan, Civil and military Naib Salaar of the eastern side, that according to information received by us in these days from the exalted Government of India, it appears that fighting has taken place between the two sides owing to some misunderistanding, 5 “You should suspend hostilies until lthe door of discussion and communiTcation is opened, as we had no intenjtion of fighting with this old friend, of ours, and we were obliged to take defensive measures. “Now that he also desires peace, we order and command you to keep back your regular troops, and the tribes of Mujah Din and tlie Ghazis, for whom We are liable and responsible, with your masterly efforts, and to wait further orders. , “You should, however, keep in view your defensive and offensive preparations. “If the result of the discussion between your sublime Government and the illustrious British Government is the conclusion of peace or otherwise, I shall inform you.
