FIRE ON STEAMER.
CAUSED BY BENZINE FUMES.t WANG-ANUI, this day. An outbreak of fire on the steamer Waitangi, at Patea, on Tuesday evening, was caused by fumes from leaking benzine tins, which ignited when a naked match was used near the hold. Charles Platt Bomont, aged 52, died at the Napier Hospital yesterday night. Deceased was under arrest" at. Grisborne on a charge of drunkenness. He was examined by the doctors and ordered to Porirua Mental Hospital. On arrival‘ at Napier yesterday he was in a state of collapse and taken to the hospital. The police know nothing of the ma.n’s history or relatives. An inquest will be held.
