OTAIHAPE FARMERS’ MEAT AND PRODUCE CO., LTD.
’ SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING Alspecial general meeting of shareholders in the Taihape Farmers’ Meat 7and Produce Compay, was held in the lsupper room of the Town Hal: yesterday. The meeting was called for the purpose of discussing the scheme for the general extensions of the works, and for raising the capital to carry out the proposed extensions. Mr. D. G_ Gordon, Chairman of Directors, presided over the attendance lf about 30’ members. He described in detail the nature of extensions and emphasised the necessity for carrying out the whole or at least part of this. He pointed out that during the three busy months of the season that the Works were not sufliciently large enough to enable them to give immediate delivery for the amount ‘of stock supplied In addition -t.o which on the present killing capacity of the Works, the other D_epartments were not in a position" to cope with the amount of stock that could be dealt with on the slaughtering board. He went on to say that the number of fat stock in the district was increasing, and that during the last. three months a considerable increase had taken place in the number of shareholders_ Some of the items which they were asked to supply were essential for the safety and economical working of the factory. Whether the shareholders would supply the additional capital required or not, for the larger scheme of extensions the Company would have to supply the additional steam power, ~-cd make provision for further and more adequate water supply. The tallow and manure departments would also have to be enlarged and an additional plant provided, The question of accommodation for the workers was also one that would have to be faced, and some efforts will have to be made before next season to provide additional housing and barracks for the workmen employed. Quets-tions as to cost and other, matters were asked by Messrs James} Smith, H. Belk, F. Hintz and others_ 1 Mr. James Smith proposed and Ml2l F. Hintz, seconded that this meeting authorises the directors to canvas thel district in order to raise the capital to carry out the larger scheme of exten-l sions at an approximate cost of £25,000, The vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the meeting,
