RETURNED SOLDIERS’ ASSOCIATION.

SOCIAL AND DANCE, ’ A social and dance under the auspices of the Taihape Returned Soldiers’ Association was held at the Three Stars Theatre last night, when the capacity of the building was taxed to its utmost. The floor was in good order, and the music supplied by Mrs J. Webb for the programme of dances and by other volunteers for the extras, was thoroughly appreciated. An excellent supper was provided, and the arrangements generally were asc satisfactory as could be desired. Messrs. S. Dunfbar and T. Giles offi~ ciated as M’s C, All present seemed to enjoy themselves: thoroughly and the programme of dances was gone through Without a hitch of any kind in the arrangements. The function was undoubtedly the most successful of its kind ever held in Taihapc. The Committee desires to expressly thank ‘those gentlemen who rendered voluntary assistance in preparing the floor during the afternoon, Messrs. Capill Bros. for use of motor car and ,other services, and all those who so ‘ably assisted by disposing of’ tickets. The caterer, Mr_ J_ Dyer, was asked at short notice to provide fpr a largely increascdnunibel‘, and the committee are extremely grateful to him for the manner in which he responded to the demand. The services of Mesdames J. Webb, J. W. Upchurch. J. M. Campbell, E_ Lenlh-an, and Misses ‘Mason, Dyer ‘and Beban are also greatly appreciated by the .-cominittee, which also desires to thank Mrs. Treadwell for use of piano. A guessing competition, conducted by Mrs. Webb and Misses Mason and Beban, attracted a large number of competitors. One hundred and seventyfive girls’ names Were listed, and one of these was selected_:md placed in a sealed envelope before the competiition commenced. The prize, a s_ilk-€m-broidered night-gown, was won by Miss Margaret Leahy, - ‘ Owing to the limited accommoaamu at the Three Stars.
