WEDNESDAY, JUNE 11, 1919. DANGERS BESETTING LABOUR.
With which ‘its incorporated “The Taihape Post and Waimarino News.”
We make no apology to our readers for frequent ret.urn to the subjects of Bolshevism and Trusts, because we are fully convinced that no other disaster to civilisation; to social stability, and to peaceful conditions in the various countries of the world even commence to compare with them as a. menace to the welfare, generally, of mankind. Humanity is beset with dircst peril from two extremes, one would deprive it of its lifeblood, its means of living, by stealth, cunning remorseless cruelty, inhuman treachery; the other has openly declared war on every body and on everything mankind has hitherto regarded as sacred socially, domestically, industrially and religiously. We firmly believe that if mankind. exorcised the evil spirit of the Trust, that of the Bolshevik would have nothing to exist upon and that it would soquentia.lly vanish_ At present I.hey are two real perils, but there is a chain of undeniable evidence establishing the fact that oppression, legalised robbery, and fraud, practiced by might, are the bacillus of Bolshevism. If the greatest human sore manlrind has anyknowledgeof is to .be healed Warfare must .comnlenee_ upon the germ that produces it. It has been claimed that Russia cannot be- blamed for establishing a law of Bolshevism any more than America can be assailed for insistence of a Munfro Doctrine, but such a claim is obviously specious, because Monroism is not forced upon the peoples of other countries, While the operations of Bolshevism are proclaimed by Lenin and Trotsky :to be world-wide, and that jtheir niissiorrwill not be complete, un}til not only the German Government, ;but the British Government, the EUnited States Government, and all | other governments are overthrown. It is iadrnitted to be a religion of class hatIred and a crusade has been started in Russia to destroy, throughout. the ‘world, all other religions,'all other [states of society, and to institute a imode of life in accordance with the [dogmas and tenets laid down by [Lenin and Trotsky. . A ‘British disFciple of Bolshevism states, -toV;ob‘tain ;equality ten per cent. of Russians 'must have their standard of life lowZercd, while itliat’ of the ninety per tcent_ is raised. Such may be deemed ‘pretty phraseology, but it is at bottom utterly utopian verbiage_ Mankind {can no more establish human equality than it can construct ah ladder from earth to the moon. It is quite another matter to insist. upon establishment of conditions whereby every man has equal right and opportunity .befor and under the law. The Russian promoters of Bolshevism, by their living in luxury while three parts of ‘the Russian [people are starving, are making it supremely evident that they are dishonestly preaching a humanly impossible doctrine of equality. The word “equality” is used by Bolshevists merely to conjure with, for no two men, having commonsense, meeting in the street, will after noting each others chief physical and mental char-ac-teristics, ever believe that their natural differences can render physical and mental equality possible. Strength and might will be the basis of right. in what Bolshevism there may be in the future, as it is the basis upon which the Bolshevism of the present day rests. It may be Claimed that Bolshevists stand for Soviet rule, but there is some one to rule the Soviets; there is in their system a supreme ruling, central Soviet, and -the members of such cannot by Virtue Of the power acquired live or act on a dead equality with their fellows. Mr. Veitch, MP., has pointed out to Mr. Holland, M.P., his impossible pretensions to equality, by clearly demonstating that while Bolshevism advocates, consciencious rights for men to disobey the law, it denies the right to an exercise of conscience altogether to those who do not worship at the Bolshevist shrine. What BOISII6Vi3tI equality stands for is also clearly dis-‘ covered in our midst, as well as just outside our doors. In Australia,§ Bolshevism is endeavouring to seize,l take charge of, and use the Labour; movement; a trial of strength between( real labour and the spurious, the 801-§ shevik kind, took place this week in: Sydney. Bolshevism was defeated,4 but it was by such a narrow majority‘
as to cause thoughtful men much concern. Australian Bolsheviks, thinking themselves strong enough, threw dOWII the gauntlet and fully disclosed what «the equality Australian and New Zealand Bolshevism is striving for. An attempt was made to make lab--our’s chief political objective the establishment of a state social democracy in which the entire means of Wealth and production be controlled by a community of Workers. In other words, the leaders of Bolshevism‘ wants labour to turn all gfiveriiments out and put them in; to give them the power of seizing all property and 11101183’ and use it as they think fit_ We seriously ask any sensible worker Whether he ‘thinks he would be better off under the Lenins and Trotskys -than he would under a labour government that the masses are capable of evolving and establishing at any general election of a parliament? We know that labour is at the point of desperation, but we submit that lab--our’s salvation does not lie in the importation of a political recipe from Russia—from Russia of all 4‘coun=tries in -the world. Bolshevik tenets can never be co’mpatible with the inborn British character, and any attempt at dragooning, or coe“l‘cion can only result in civil war, in opposition to the methods of bloody terrorism by which truc Bolshevism is known. Let labour have no misunderstanding about Bolshevism; let la-bour realise they have a franchise that none dare challenge or interfere with; that labour has the power to return whom they please to parliament to niake their laws without risking the blood of one individual; let. everyman think for himself for he will then realise what a spurious, dangerous, silly thing the equality of Bolshevism is. Labour possesses supreme political power, why hand it over to a few mouthy desciples of Russian Bolshevism? If labour will make its chief purpose the destruction of chartered robbery; the enactment of such laws as will render the existence of trusts and combines impossible; if «the rights and privileges of the individual are made to 'synchr.onise with the rights and privileges of the masses by committing all chartered‘ wrong to ‘oblivion, a way will -be opened up for ‘the’ establishment of a, regime of happiness, prosperity, equality and contentment that no process of terrorism can ever accomplish. No honest person can deny that labour is being mercilessly and ruthlessly plundered, and it will lie at the, doors of those who are exploiting the masses if labour does"f-all victim to Bolshevism. ‘ '
