PLUNKET SOCIETY.

The usual monthly meeting of the above Society was held in the Nurse ’s+ Room, Town Hall, on Friday, 6th June. Nurse Mcßride reported that there are now 116 babies on the 'Society’s; books, three being new’ eases_ During the month the nurse visited 96 homes and received 99 visits at thevoffice. - The annual report of the Central‘ Council was read, and printed copies were lent to those present.: ' Arrangements were made for the committee to meet Mrs. Studholme ‘to hear the report of the Town Planning Conference, held in Wellington, last month_ Subscriptions and donations have been received from the following:— Mrs. Boyd £1 1/, Mrs_ Murray 5/, Dr. Mac Diarmid £1 1/, Mrs. Mac Diarmid 5/. RED CROSS CONVENTION_ The conference which was mentioned at the annual meeting of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children, Dl-_ Truby King was invited to attend at Cannes on the Ist u1t0.,-was convened for the purpose of formulating a programme for submission to a Convention of the Red Cross Societies, of the world, to be held at Gencvt 30 days after declaration of peace. It is expected that from this convention there will emerge an international organisation through wihch the peoples of the world may co-operate in stimulating and developing activities in the respective countries for the betterment of mankind. Such activities will, it is contemplated, foster the study of human disease, will promote sound measures for public health and sanitation, thc welfare of children and mothers, the education and training of nurses, and the care and prevention of tuberculosis, venereal disease, malaria, and other chronic or infectious diseases, and will provide measures for handling problems of World relief in emergencies such as fire, famine, and ‘pestilence.
