THE RABBIT PEST.
The T 0 Kui-ti branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ 'Union.rceeived 3 letter from the Mailiiihi branch inviting support to proposed amenclments of the Rabbit Act, 1908. and asking the Te Kuiti branch to approach the lfinister of»Agriculture and the Auckland executive on the matter. It was suggested that local bodies be given power to form themselves into Rabbit ‘Boards witth power tto borrow money ‘under the Loans Act to supply settlers with wire netting and rating them for interest and sinking fund on the actual cost of the netting. It was not proposed to make the creation of Rabbit Boards cumpulsory, but only at the settlers’ option, and concerning only such land as was infested with rabbits. Rarbbit-proof fences, it was proposed, should be declared legal fences in infested areas, and that the Boards be given power to detel-mine, where such fences were necessary; and that the Boards should have power .120 levy rates up to 3d. in the £, such rate not exceed 1/- per acre. The pm- ‘ posals were unanimously approved by‘ ‘the Te Kuiti branch.
