TAIHAPE RUGBY SUB-UNION
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Taihape Rugmy Sub-Union was held last night, there being rep-resenetafives from Huia Senior and Junior Clubs,‘Pirates Sennor and Junior) and Rovers Club. There were also a. number of club members present. Mr Geo. Wrightson presided. -
In his opening remarks Wrightson said it was a pleasure to meet once more after the war, and endeavour to resuscitate the Union. For four years football had languished, and the meeting that night was called to endeavour to bring the game up to the level of 1914. He regretted there was no delegate from Mataroa present, The report; and balance sheet was then read by the Scretary, Mr. W. V. Kelsall. The finances of the Union are in a very sound condition, there being a credit balance of £3B 8/10 in the bank; the assets show a balance of £67 11/6 GVOl‘ liabilities. During the war period, which has some to a glorious» close, -the Union ceased operations, caused by the players 1.6-ing called away to fight for King and country, a number of whom will not return to take part. in the 2:03] old game, but their nEillli’.S will ~ilw:-iys be very dear, and will never be forge?ten by the Union. The chairman, in moving the adoption of the re.-_iort and bx-.la-irze sheet, said the position disclosed vas very satisfactory. It now remained for the meeting to place the Union in as gt 0d a position as possible for the coming year, and the outlook was pa‘-rti:-.ul:irly bright. Many men who had been 60ing their best for their Fin; and country had now returned. and were now to be found playing on the football field. He hoped that Mataroa would be able to put a team in the field; there was no reason why, with a little organisation, a junior team .s»hould.not be gottogether. There wasone exception -trofthe note of satisfaction, and -that was the death of their late comrade, Sergeant Chas; Cribb, who met his death’ on the batlefield. -, , . The chairman then moved: “That this, the first meeting of the Taihape Sub—Union, after the cessation of hostilities, desires to express its deepest sympathy with the relatives of the late Sergeant C. Cribb in his death.” The chairman paid a sympathetic eulogy to the departed footballers The motion, was earied in silence, -those present standing.

Reference was made to the necessity for providing two football grounds, to enable two football or hockey matches to be played simultaneously. The need was generally admitted, but was considered to be too large an undertaking for the Union, and there should be a combination of the A. and P_ Associa—, tion, Hockey, Rugby Union, ‘Sports-§ Club, and other bodies interested in: the Recreation GII‘OUIIdS. It was stated a the cost of forming two playing‘ grounds Would ’be‘in the vicinity of; £SOO. One member present suggestedfi that the work should be done in gfhel form of a memorial Park to our fallen] soldiers, and this idea seemed to meet! with general approbation. Eventuallyl the matter was held over till a future ' date, as the present lime was not] considered opportune, |
