AMERICA AND JAPAN

A GOOD UNDERSTANDING POSSIBLE.

Received 9.50 a.m. NEW YORK, May 20. The New York Times' Washington j correspondent had an interview with j Ba.ron Goto, who, speaking as a privj ate individual, said: I do not believe there is any serious conflict of interests between Japan and the United States. Whatever misunderstanding may exist can be cleared away by the leading men of both countries. I think the Japanese Government thinks the Anglo-Japanese Alliance should be continued for the preservation of peace in the Par East. The present conditions in Eastern Russia constitute a danger to the peace of the Far East. The League of Nations covenants may be imperfect, but I think if nations sincerely observe the provis- | sions the peoples of the world will derive much good. Japan will uncTbubt- • edly observe the provisions of the covenant.
