TAIHAPE'S HOUSING PROBLEM.

RESERVING LAND FOR WORKERS' HOMES.

Some considerable time before the Mayoral election, Mr A. L. Arrowsmith had been investigating the availability of certain sections in Taihapc, controlled by the Crown Lands Department with a view to having them reserved as sites for workers' hemes. Working in conjunction with Mr K. W. Smith, M.P.. Mr Arrow-smith has had considerable correspondence in connection with the matter, and on Saturday last- received the following telegram from the Hon. D. H. Guthrie, Minister for Lands:— *

"Mr R. W. Smith, M.P., has made (representations to me on your behalf, for iho withdrawal from sale of two sections which it is considered should be kept for workers' homes, and I have had pleasure in giving directions for this to be done. They will be held for that pending aUrangemjentis being made with the Borough Council as to the disposition of the same.—D. H. Guthrie, Minister for Lands."

The sections referred to in the Minister's telegram are 2a. Or. ISp., and 2a. 2r. ISp. in extent, situated between the Agricultural reserve, on the road to Beban's Hill, and the Otaihape stream from the bridge back to the railway line.
