Son)., ii dication of the values or "he primary produce exported abroad from this fertile and prosperous district during the past financial year, have just been released by the Government. These figures make interesting reading, for they show that Wanganui is cue of the wealthiest and prosperous j districts in the Dominion. It occupies f!;e sixth position as an exporting port. its superiors being Wellington, Auckland, Lyttelton, Dunedin. and Napier, in that order. The value of the produce exported from Wellington during the last financial year was £8,009,044, from Auckland £6,416,601, from Lyttelton £2.872,952, from Dunedin, £2,341.029, and from Wanganui £2,008,062. The value of the exports from this port for the previous year was £2,229,051. BIG VALUE IN CHEESE. ■pi ; Ihe value of the primary produce exported from the port of Patea for the financial year, .1918-19, was £1,248,069. For the financial year of .1917-18.' the exports were valued at £1,4:52 780. Cheese was the commodity most exported, the value of this article of diet reaching for the last year the tidy sum of £1,052,162. Butter was not so extensively exported, £43,949 being the extent of the value cf the bores shipped away. Of the other items of primary produce shipped from South Taranaki's port, the following are the chief: Beef £33.843, mutton £23,819, lamb £6517, wool £8434, hides and skins £14,959. sheepskins £11,442. and tallow £11.389.
