TAIHAPE FORGERY CASE
At the Supreme Court at Wanganui on Monday, John Spain was charged with forgery and uttering cheques at Taihape to the value of £3O. He was also charged with forging a telegram The accused pleaded guilty to the charges. -■ The prisoner had also pleaded guilty in the Lower Court at Taihape to a similar charge of forging and uttering a cheque. The prisoner handed in a written statement in answer to the question whether he had anything to say before \ sentence was passed on him. T( His, Honour said he did not see that "he could do otherwise than to sentence the prisoner, to a term of imprisonment "Taking the most favourable view of your record I find that you have systematically resorted to obtaining money by means of forged cheques," said his Honour. He added that the sentence he was about to impose did not seem an adequate sentence taking into consideration the number of offences. The prisoner was sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment on each charge, including the one he had pleaded guilty to in 'the Lower Court, the sentences to be concurrent. j
