EPIDEMIC RELIEF FUND.

A meeting of subscribers to the Eidemic Fund was held last night, at which Mr A. L. Arrowsmith presided. Mr Arrowsmith said the reason for calling the meeting was the necessity for appointing twio trustees in place of the Rev. Mr McDonald and Mr D. Scott, the former having resigned on account of having left the district, and the latter through inability to attend to the work.

Rev. Mr McDonald reported on behalf of the 'trustees that a great deal of work had been done and a considerable number of cases relieved. Funeral expenses had been paid in some cases, which had been a great help to the widows. Clothing had been supplied to children who were in need. Advances in money had been made to necessitous cases. Pensions had been applied for o n behalf of widows, which, in most cases had been granted. The labours of the sub-committee, Messrs Neaglo and Powell, were referred to in terms of the highest appreciation. The broadness and thoroughness of the work of these gentlemen had very greatly relieved the duties of the trustees, and the thanks of the community were due to them. The report expressed the highest appreciation to the generosity of the subscribers to the fund, and it was their generous ('contributions which made it possible to relieve the many cases of acute distress caused by the epidemic. Details of cases, dealt with were given, and statement of accounts submitted, which showed that the total contributions amount to £O3B S/G; expenditure, £350 IS/6; leaving a credit balance of £287 10/.

A vote of thanks was passed to the trustees for their gratuitous work, also to Messrs Neagle and Powell for thenvaluable assistance.

Messrs Stent and McLennan were appointed trustees to act with Mr Gibbs. The trustees are to have power to till any vacancies which may occur. Several subscribers voiced their appreciation of the way the fund bad been administcerd, and the 'tactful and sympathetic manner in which work had been done.

It was decided to place £2OO of the fund in the Post Office Savings Bank, so that it may be earning interest until required.

This being all the business, the meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair.
