STORY OF EVACUATION OF ODESSA.
RELUCTANT ROYYALTIE«
LONDON, May 4
Tlit Times' special correspondent, while aboard an Italian warship, witnessed the evacuation of Odessa. He telegraphs the details from Constantinople. Thirty thousand civilians were accommodated on transports. Many, however, remained, being unable to exchange their roubles, and although dreading the Bolsheviks, yet they feared that freedom would entail penury., Others escaped inland, hoping to join ilie Allied troops by retiring towards the Dniester.
The Bolsheviks pursued these, and probably captured them. The warships brought out certain Royalties .from the Crimea. The Grand Duke Nicholas and the Dowager Empress were urged to embark. They at first refused, on the grounds of sentiment, but were ultimately forced aboard the British ships, accompanied by 300 court officials.
Both the British and French foresaw (hat all would be assassinated if they remained, as the Crimea was regarded as.one of the worst centres of terrorism. Thousands of officers were butchered, and thrown into the sea during the first Bolshevik regime. PSKOV FRONT SMASHED. 1 Received May 27, 9.0 a.m. LONDON, May 26.
