A CANCELLED CONTRACT.
LARGE QUANTITY OP WOOL
AFFECTED.
CHRISTCHURCH, May 19
Mr. W. I. Carney, general manager of Armour and Co., of Australasia, bas received a cable message stating that the contract for the balance of the American, purchase of wool from Australasia has been cancelled. The United States Government hast year i contracted to purchase 300,000 bales of wool from Australasia Of that quantity 100,000 bales were to come from New Zealand. Already 36,316 bales have been sent, and a contract for the balance —63,684 bales has been cancelled. When the armistice was signed the United States Gove.rnend had many contracts with the Brutish Imperial Government, and the latter had many contracts '.yitii the United States. Five representatiives of each country have met in conference, and have agreed to cancel contracts oi?. both sides. The Australasian wool contract evidently in one of those cancelled by the United States. The [ cancellation will not cause difficulty in 1 disposing of New Zealand wool. The 1 balance will go to England instead of 1 the United Statcs_
