The frst lecture in homo nursing in connection with St. John’s Ambulance Association rvill be given to-morrow evening, at 8 o’clock, in the Fire Brigrade Hall. It is eminently desirable that all members who intend taking the courses should attend the initial lecture, as it will, perhaps, save the necessity of having to traverse the ground again® A petition, to which numerous signatures are being attached in the Wairarapa. asks the Government to undertake the deviation of the Rimutaka railway line*.. A route has been surveyed, and levels have been taken for the construction of a line through (lie ranges with an outlet at Tanhorenikau Gorge. I'lii.s route would give an easy grade, but (he residents of Wairarapa do not favour it, on the ground that it would not open up any good country. The loute most favoured is by means of a tunnel through the bill into Wainui-o-mata Valley, with an outlet into Wairarapa, below Featherston. The petitioners intend also to ask the Government to straighten the Ruamahunga River by diverting its course through the Qouawha lagoon. By doing so, the Wairarapa Take would be turned into a farming area of 43,000 acres, and (rC.OOO acres, which surround the lake, and which are subject to flood during six .mouths of the year, would, be kept •'dry. When colds and influenza are prevalent let NAZOL protect your family. One dose a day keeps colds away. Good for all ages. Sixty doses 1/6. 4
