The steamer Willochra, with German
and Austrian prisoners of war on board, left at 0.30 last night for Sydney, where she completes her complement. and then proceeds to Plymouth* The crew, as the prisoners wore escorted to their quarters, “ barracked ” them, with remarks such as, “What about submarines now* Where are the torpedm?sT” RAILWAY APPEAL BOARD’S DECISION VETOED. - BY MINISTER OF RAILWAYS. WELLINGTON, this day. In connection with the appeal of A. N. Longton, booking clerk, at Lamhlon, against the Railway Department’s decision regarding his promotion on the grounds that ho lacked a sense of discipline, and whom the Railway Appeal Board decided unanimously in favour of at- a recent meeting, it is notv announced that the Ministe'r of Railways hag used his power of veto, and reversed the decision of the Board. It is stated that this is the first occasion that a unanimous decision of the Board has been vetoed since the late Hon. Mr. Millar was Minister of Railways. It is understood that the Railway Officers’ Institute and A. S. R.S. will take action, as an important principle involved.
