IMPERIAL GUARD.

THE PROPOSAL DISCUSSED.

LONDON, May 13

Discussion is proceeding in official eircles regarding the desirability of establishing an Imperial Guard. Enquiries among Canadian and Australian soldiers indicate many are willing to join provided the period of service is short. It is generally agreed that the scheme presents difficulties Of organisation.

Sir Thomas Mackenzie, interviewed, agreed that there would be a good effect from the formation of the unit from an Imperial point of view, but it might not be approved by New Zealand, which discouraged the military spirit except for defensive purposes. Possibly it would not welcome a proposal to send sons 12,000 miles for a prolonged period of service.
