THE EX-KAISER'S PREACHER
Dr. Dryander, preacher to the late Prussian Court, has burst forth in a lachrymose appeal for "justice" to his discredited royal patron, the ex-Kaiser* Thi s i s a sample of the parson's eloquence: •; - /; -, \: ... ' ,-": "History may be left to portray my Kaiser some day, as sbe will, Maybe! she will proclaim him to have been a monarch who was not of the stature to deal with the volcanic forces of his time. Maybe she will find against him that with his amazing penetration and comprehension and with his interest in every scientific problem that "was presented to him he did not perhaps always avoid the danger of a divided mind which seeks to e brace more than possible. We have been laid low and have no gauntlet except our protests to throw down to cur tradueers. But love for my Kaiser imposes upon me the duty of raising my voice even to-day when passions are still m?.']ly contending."
