MR WRIGHTSON REPLIES TO MR JOBLIN.

To the Editor. ■Sir, —In Cr. Joblin’s reply to my address. published in your paper, I was very much surprised that a man aspiring to the position of Mayor of this Borough would so distort the truth and deliberately mis-represont the facts as they really are. Most of the matter referred to-is So trivial that it is not worth referring to. But his remarks with reference to returned soldiers I cannot lot pass without some comment. In Cr. Joblin’a letter he stated that Cr. Wrightson complained that the soldiers left the hall in a disgraceful state after one of their dances; that beer and whisky bottles were lying all over the place, and. after further uncomplimentary remarks, said, “I don’t want this ( ]>ublislield. Kbw. sir, T want to state that this is a deliberate distortion off the truth. The facts of the ease are as follows: The custodian of the hall (not Cr. Wrightson, as stated by Mr Joblin. as I was never in the hall) reported the above to the Town Clerk, who handed the report on to the Council, and during the discussion that followed, I did turn to the reporter and ask that the report be not published, in an endeavour to shield the returned soldiers. As there is no man in this Dominion who has endeavoured to do more for them, and will still continue tu do so, than myself. I was very much disgusted to think that anyone aspiring to the position of Mayor of this Borough would stoop to such deliberate and untruthful statements as the above. And. sir, I was also much .surprised that a paper of the standing of the “Taihape Daily Times” should publish on the .eve of such an important event as the election of our Mayor such a letter as that published over Cr. .Toblin’s name, without first giving me a chance to reply, which, if not a breach of journalistic etiquette, is a distinct breach of the electoral law. Trusting that you will publish the above, as I wish to vindicate myself against the untruthful charges made,— I* am, etc.,

GEORGE WBIOHTSON. Taih ape, May 2.
