PEACE CELEBRATIONS.
A meeting of the "Peace ■was held last evening, when there was a representative and enthusiastic gathering. Wrightson, in the absence of the Mayor, presided. Pro gress reports from the various sub committees were read, which showed that those in charge of th e various events have been active and busy, and all well forward with their arrangements. The railway authorities have expressed a readiness to assist the committee in the matter of 'extra trains, etc., so as to ensure all travelling convenience for visitors from the outlying districts; the final arrangements have been left in the hands of Mr Mercer, who will, in a few days, be able to announce exactly what timetable the Department will be able to
give. Subscriptions so far have been coming in but slowly, but the' committee are confident that au organised appeal will, with the subsidy promised by the Government, afford all th e funds required. A collecting campaign w T as undertaken and organisers in the various parts of the district were appointed. A further meeting is called for next Friday evening to make final arrangements, due notice of which will be given. ; !
