“This :s a cas- of the susceptible naval man, who met a coo attractive young woman who made the hunting and induced him to marry her.”
This was counsel's defence at the Old Bailey in the ease of William N. utili, a naval artificer, who pleaded guilty to a charge of bigamy.
‘‘lt was the woman who fascinated him and induced him to marry her," continued counsel. “She got out the license and paid all expenses. She sent him many letters of 'an affectionate character, and was very insistent that he should marry her. And she wanted a secret marriage, thinking it would be a romantic thing.” In passing sentence of 12 months’ imprisonment in the second division, the Common Sergeant said lie could not find a redeeming feature in the ease.
