LORD FRENCH PUBLISHES A BOOK Received April 29, -9.40 a.m. LONDON, April 28. The Daily Telegraph has commenced the publication of Viscount French's book, entitled, "1914." 11 deals with the utmost candour with his relations with Lord Kitchener during the Mons retreat, and shortage of ammunition and reforccmcuts early in 1915. Marshal Foch contributes ;a preface, dealing with the German rushes for llie sea ports, and shows the immense importance of the battles for Ypres. He says Lord French kept his troops up to Wellington's level.

The police intercepted a letter addressed to Landru from Mademoiselle Deschamp, whom Landru met at the tube half an hour before being arrested, otherwise she undoubtedly would have been another of his victims. Deschamps, is a pretty girl of twenty years, and beautiful eyes. She told the police she immediately felt she could trust the handsome black-bearded gentleman, with extraordinary fascinating eyes, amiable manners, and sweet voice, who offered her his seat. She couldn't resist when asked to alight at the next station. Landru adding: "I would give all my life for a minute's talk with you alone." They walked together to the underground corridors for a quarter of an hour. Landru professed love, and told her he had a large fortune, and said: "Next week you come in a motor car to my lovely villa in the country."
