A GOOD WORD FOR THE CAMEL.

Amongst the many things learnt by our men during the war is the pleasing fact that Mr Kipling's "airy, scarry 'ount" is not exactly a typical camel. That ungrateful creature was a transport camel, and transport camels have much to put up with. But many men of the Camel Corps in Palestine speak with affection of their mounts, praising their docility and friendliness, and crediting them with an intelligence equal to (that of the trained horse. And these men lived day and night, with their camels for months on end.

"If you trust your camel decently," one man said, "you'll find in him most of the Christian vihtues and a few heathen graces as well."
