CATTLE TICK MENACE.
To the Editor.
Sir, —I should like you to issue the following in your valuable paper. It appears that the cattle tick is now spreading to a considerable area in the Auckland Province. Large numbers of store cattle come down the Main Trunk to the market hero and further south, and at present there seems that there is nothing done to make sure that they are not infected with tick. ■& It appears that there is only one way of dealing with cattle affected, and that is by constant dipping. Farmers will quite understand the labour and expense that will be involved in this.
Until the area infected is well defined and the Government take it properly in hand the same way as was done with the blackleg in Taranaki, or even more drastic measures if the case warrants it. It is better to be sure than sorry, and until we know. I should strongly recommend all farmers to make quite sure before buying Auckland cattle that they do not come from anywhere near the tick infested district. —I am, etc.,
