TAIHAPE AND DISTRICT RETURNED SOLDIERS’ ASSOCIATION.

The annual general meeting of the above Association was held last night, there being a good attendance of returned men present. Mr. Neeley occupied the chair. J; The balance .sheet for the past year was read, and adopted. Receipts showed: Balance from original association. £146 4/7: subscriptions £2l 13/; donations, £3O 11/6; entertainments, dances etc., £146 5/11; rent received £1; tranfer fee- 2/6; refund on account of music £2 2/. — £347 19/6. Expenditure: Stamps, stationery etc., £53 4/10; expenses, entertain-Jf meats, etc.. £34 2/10; sundry expenses, £5 16/; rent of office, £4 of balance, cash in bank £250 10/10. Total £250 10/10. Mr. Neeley, in speaking on the motion for the adoption of the balance sheet, stated the membership of the ; Association was 33; he was disappointed—is should have been 133. It was absolutely essential that all returned men should stick together if they expected to achieve anything worth while. Many men when they joined the Association and paid their subscription thought that their obligation was ended; as a matter of fact their work had only begun. The balance sheet as read was adopted. The election of officers I resulted as follows: President, Mr. Murrell (unopposed); Vice-President, Mr. Lcnihan; Commits tee, Messrs, Howden, Stevens, Wrightson, W. J. Williams, Haydon, Champion Gibbs, Harris, Meredith. It was decided to be represented at the forthcoming New Zealand Re- i turned Soldiers' Associations' Conference to be held during May in Christchurch. The question of the Association's participation in the Peace Celebrations -was brought up. and after dis- ; eussion a committee was set up of Messrs. Lenihan, Eaton, Wrightson, Olsen, McLaughlan, Stevens, to take over the management of the events or. the programme set apart for returned soldiers, and to assist the ori ganiscrs Of the sports in any way possible. This being all the business the meeting, adjourned
