DISPLAYING THE FIGURES.
It was with considerable) difficulty that this journal was able to notify the reports of the polling in 'Such, a way that ali who cared'might read them. Press Association messages from the various electorates continued to arrive till past midnight, and our staff worked with commendable public spirit to ensure that every figure coining to hand was passed on to an interested gathering. The publication of returns as they arrived was only rendered possible by the good work and services or Mr De Lautour, who generously gave up one of his dental parlours for the accommodation of our staff, from the Avindow of which the figures were shrown by a projecting lantern on to a screen on the opposite side of the street. Mr do Lautour also worked hard during the day in assisting to gcit an obdurate lantern Co do its duty, and until mijdnight he wrote the figures on lantern slides which told the story of the polling as it came to hand. Had it not been for the export services of Mr Stewart Dunbar there would have been no lantern to display the returns. Out of very unmaterials Mr 'Dunbar built up a projecting apparatus that did its duty passably till midnight, and he operated, his creation, with satisfaction until at midnight his storage lottery ran out of the elusive current. Mr Dunbar also assisted in screen-building, and ia various other ways, for which we are pleased to tender him public, thanks. We also offer our thanks to a lady who assisted by writing lantern slides right up to the last return received coming to hand. Willing, generous assistance and consideration made this journal's work last night rather a jdeasure than otherwise.
