RANGITIKEI COUNTY COUNCIL.

The Engineer's report as follows ;was read at the meeting of the Council on Wedesnday:—

Te Kapua Riding.—The 4 nG weather lias permitted good progress with the road repairs, and most of the roads iaie now in fair order. Gravel repairs are in progress on the Kukeroa aroad No. 2 grader is now at work at Tiriraukawa. Good progress has been made with the gravelling of the Otaihape Valley road, Taihape. No. 4 small grader is working on the Upper Turakina Valley Road, tSe lufeses being found found by settlers. J*kwarua Riding.—Formation work on the Rifle Range road, Mangaweka has been completed, and gravelling will be commenced when teams are procurable. Fresh tenders were Invited for gravelling the Tuhoe road, Utiku, but none were secured". Complaint has been made about the sawdust on the Toe Toe road being on fire, and dangerous. I have Inspected this, but cannot recommend anything fceyond removing the lot, which would probably cost between £3O and £4O, The roads in Kawhatau are still had with slips. Six men are now at work and I hope to have the worst remov-

ed before the winter. Fair progress has been made with gravelling on the road. The Reserve at Taihape for -watering stock has been temporarily opened to give access to Hautapu River. '

Erewhon Riding.—No. 1 grader is now at work on the Otuarei road,

iworking to Taihape

It will then, go

on to Utiku-Kawhatau roads. Teams Jfanve been secured to carry out gravel Impairs on the Taihape-Wainui-Moa-

whango roads. ~ Ruanui Riding.—Generally the roads are fair. A good deal of work yet remains at Okakura and Otara roads. Tbefore all the slips are removed. I •have interviewed the engineer of Waimarino County Council find there is nearly £3OO of thirds in their hands ■which are due to sections in the Waimarino County that have no access to their but have to Ruanui. Riding roads. Application should be made to the Land Board to have these handed to the Rangitikei County for expenditure. I have inspected the school reserve, at Turangarere, where It is proposed to close a portion' of the County road. The land adjoining the road is Native lease, and is being sub-leased in sections temporarily. It appears to me that it will be rather a complicated matter closing half a chain along these frontages, and as there is plenty of flat ground on which to build, it seems unnecessary.

Owing to difficulty in obtaining ; a

suitable man and team, ilt has been jyaeeessary to lay up the No. 4 grader %hich was working.in this Riding. The

Commissioner of Lands, has advised ■~~»oae that Section 11.. of two acres, at Rangiwaea Junction, may be -obtained as a site for a roadman's cottage.
