PEACE DAY CELEBRATIONS.
A meeting of the Executive Committee (Messrs W. MeLennon, H. D. Bond, and VV. J. Munro), appointed by the public to draw up a programme for the Peace Day spouts, wsas held last night. A ‘draft programme, consisting of the following events, was drawn up:—Horse -events: Pony jump, open jump, Victoria Cross race, stockmen’s ]'€;CC, boys’ pony race. -
Pedestrian evenfs: Old identities’ Jubilee handicap (15 years’ residence to qualify), 100 yards Maori men’s race, 100 yards open race, 200 yards open race, A}-mile open race, single ladies’ race, marrie‘d ladies’ race, Maori ladies’ race.
_" Returned soldiers’ events: Tug-of-war, chain stopping, 100 yards handicap, -alarm race, gal'gle- parade. Miscellaneous events: Tug-of-war /'7 men aside), boys’ bicycle race, baby SIIOW (boys under 18 months, girls under 18‘n1ont.hs; to be judged "by members of .thc medical professior-.). Fire Brigade events: Substantial cash prizes or trophies will be given for each event in this conllection.

Nieholls is the first in the field with the preser.ta.tion Of a prize for -the boys’ bicycle. race M The returned soldiers are taking a keen interest in the sports, and held ;a special meeting, at which the sporfs were discussed, and events for returned soldiers submitted to we Executive. The soldiers are particularly keen on the tug-of-wal'_. and are getting a team into immediate training. At xx recenti sports meeting the local returned soldiers’ team beat everything‘ ofi‘ering.
