A SHIRKER CAUGHT.
Dame rumour says that the Hamilton Hospital authorities have recently been; entertaining unawares, not an angel, but a shirker. Some little lime ago a “patient” was admitted, allegedly suffering from an injured spine and some trouble which necessitated the use of crutches. The mysterious i injury of disease baffled the doctor for a while, and instead of calling in the services of another medico, as is usually done in such, cases, he consulted the police. The result was the arrival of a policeman at the hospital entrance, and an intimation to the “patient” from the doctor that it was desirable in the former’s interests that he be removed to another ward While moving out of the ward leaning heavily on his crutches, he espied the policeman, Smelling a rat. the patient, displaying considerably more activity than he had shown since entering the hospital, thought fir make, his exit through another door. Here he discarded his crutches, and with the agility of a sprinter left the institution which had befriended him. with the constable in hot pursuit. The pursuit still continues
